2021 Honda City Hatchback RS Unveiled in Indonesia: What to Expect in Malaysia

May 10, 2021 Honda has recently unveiled the 2021 City Hatchback RS in Indonesia, following its initial debut in Thailand. This new model serves as a replacement for the Honda Jazz, offering a fresh five-door alternative to the City sedan. As the City Hatchback rolls out across ASEAN markets, anticipation is building for its launch in Malaysia.

Indonesian Debut and Specifications
The City Hatchback RS made its Indonesian debut, featuring the same powertrain as its Thai counterpart. It is powered by a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated i-VTEC four-cylinder engine, delivering 121 PS and 145 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with either a CVT or a 6-speed manual transmission, the latter being an option exclusively available to Indonesian buyers.

Design and Features
The City Hatchback RS in Indonesia shares many design elements with the model sold in Thailand. These include dark accents on the exterior, such as gloss black 16-inch alloy wheels, mirror caps, door handles, and a front grille. The interior also carries the RS signature red/black motif, with dual-tone seats, red accents around the instrument cluster, and red stitching on various elements, including the steering wheel and dashboard. The centerpiece of the interior is an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Expected Malaysian Launch
While official pricing and launch details for Malaysia are yet to be announced, it is expected that the City Hatchback will arrive with similar specifications to the Indonesian version. However, Malaysian buyers might miss out on the RS trim initially, as this variant could be reserved for the sedan. The Malaysian version is likely to feature the same 1.5-liter engine with a CVT, similar to the Indonesian model.

Safety and Colors
The Indonesian City Hatchback RS comes equipped with six airbags, Vehicle Stability Assist, Hill Start Assist, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX tether points, and seatbelt reminders for front occupants. However, it does not include Honda Sensing or LaneWatch technologies. The car is available in six exterior colors: Phoenix Orange Pearl, Rallye Red, Crystal Black Pearl, Meteoroid Grey Metallic, Lunar Silver Metallic, and Platinum White Pearl. A Modulo Accessories Pack is also offered for additional styling.

Conclusion
As the 2021 Honda City Hatchback RS makes its way across ASEAN markets, Malaysian buyers can look forward to a model that blends style, practicality, and performance. With its anticipated arrival, the City Hatchback is set to continue Honda’s legacy in the compact car segment, offering a fresh and sporty alternative to the traditional sedan.
